I'm a little perplexed about this poll issue... I know that in other forums polls don't mean anything with respect to administrative decisions such as banning members. If it's true here too, then what does it really matter what the poll results are unless you're protecting your pride and can't deal with the fact that no one likes you or wants you here?

Umm, I suppose that if a guy is protecting someone else's pride, or his own, then it's conceivable that if he was a little coo coo and insecure about himself that he might lash out and falsely accuse mods and admins of tampering with a poll that yields results undesirable to him. Of course, it's possible too that if the coo coo person is concerned a woman may consider him spineless that he may also lash out and scream false accusations about mods and admins tampering with a poll to prove that he would climb the highest mountain if that's what it takes to get into her panties.

deidre79 was one of the most popular posters here, and one of the most disliked. It was difficult not to have a strong opinion of her. This thread is certainly evidence of that.

If those who disagreed with her had expressed their disagreements as respectfully as I did, and if they had responded to her occasionally intemperate behavior as calmly as I did, all would have been well.

Unfortunately, a number of posters enjoyed baiting and tormenting her. They sensed her vulnerability, and it brought out the bully in them. I have hated bully behavior ever since I was in high school.

I honestly don't care if he does or not. Or that he did, in his own little way. It's fun to see him backed in to a corner and to have burnt just about any bridge he might have had, but an apology was never necessary. As piggit said, I know what happened to the poll and whether or not my statement of innocence was believed never mattered much.

If you're still doing it, as the present continuous form of the verb 'continue' would indicate in the above quote, why would you apologize for it? If you're not going to stop, why bother even apologizing?

My little Tell-All!

I never saw anything written that mods aren't supposed to talk about what goes on behind the privacy of the mod forums. At best it seems to be a gentlemen's/lady's agreement that it's just not talked about. And, for the most part, I'm going to hold to that. I will only divulge what happened to me in my time as mod and how it relates to what went on in the GD at the time and the decision I made to resign.

I was approached to be a mod and honestly, I jumped at the chance. I'd lobbied for it in the past and I know I had chunky's support, and I definitely took pleasure in the fact, knowing that it would piss a lot of people off. I am still me, after all and I'm nothing if not contentious.

I talked it over with the other mods and we were all aware of the consequences of my appointment. I've had several private conversations with piggit and chunky in my time here and they trusted me and assured nophest that I would be able to handle the job and weather the storm that was about to descend on GD. So with that out of the way, there was just the short wait to make sure that I would be able to access the mod functions that would be needed for me to clean out the spam. Since I'm in South Korea and they've blocked our little playground here, I have to access the site through a proxy and that plays with the features a bit. But, as is now apparent, it went through.

So, what happened. Well, the Congratulations thread happened. Deidre lost whatever was left of her damn mind. I've said before that I think the reason she went so over the top with her rhetoric was because she couldn't stand that I was now in a position to see that which she did not want known. After all, I don't think anyone would deny that of all the people she battled with, I was probably her arch nemesis. And would you want to hand your arch nemesis the key to your diary?

All of us (the mods) had battened down the hatches and were riding it out and then nophest decided to step in. The 'Deidre step in to my office' thread. This kicked up a whole new bunch of shit and we still hadn't gotten the last mess cleaned up. Shit was still being thrown in the congratulations thread and then he stepped in his with his bullshit. He'd been happily ignoring Deidre for years and now he wants to call her on it. Why? Well, in my personal opinion, he gets off on it. I think he was enjoying the show. And, in one sense, it was funny, all the drama exploding on the screen like cum shots from a meth-fueled japanese bukkake party; if one has nothing invested, one can afford to laugh it off. However, for the 4 of us at the time, there was nothing to laugh about. We were all taking heat for first my appointment, then another with nophest's games within GD. Which he would not explain to anyone. Even us. None of us agreed with what he did but nophest shrugged it off and when we told him it was like giving us a kick in the teeth to do that he basically just told us we were being too sensitive. This was my first indication that all was not peaches and cream in the higher echelons of the forum and that nophest perhaps didn't deserve all the god-worship he has always received by so many.

I was prepared to deal with the slamming I took in GD because I've fought many a battle in my time here and was well used to duking it out when I felt it was necessary. What I was not prepared for was first the almost complete indifference nophest has towards the forum and to the callus nature with which he treated the mods in their ongoing struggle to do a truly thankless job. Nophest's orders to mods, if he bothers to give any, are often contradictory and incomprehensible.

For instance, the rule of no stupid and hateful posts that I clashed with ejls with the other day. It makes no sense to have since it's vague and poorly worded and mods aren't really given the authority to ban for those reasons anyway. But nophest will hear no arguments about why it should be changed. I would not have even considered taking the job if I was supposed to watch for 'stupid and hateful posts'. I think it was an afterthought by nophest and he doesn't give enough of a shit to bother with changing it because he's not the one that's moderating. He doesn't have to deal with the daily flood of PM's of people who complain of this or that poster who is being 'stupid and hateful' and would we please ban them (we aren't supposed to) or delete their posts (we are forbidden) or just delete the thread (we are forbidden). He gives fuck all if it makes* our job a little easier.

*In my case, 'made' as I'm no longer a mod. The other mods are no doubt still having this battle even now.

It's the other thing I was not prepared for was what prompted to channel Dolly Parton and resign.

After the 'Office' thread came the infamous poll thread which is what set the final ball rolling. The poll was humming along nicely for a few days and, for those of you who might not know, I never even voted in the damn thing. I didn't care about the outcome and always thought popularity contests like those favored by both DL and Deidre were retarded. It says more about the people that create them than those that actually vote in them. Then the bombshell dropped and the poll went from a couple of dozen against to just shy of 40,000 against the motion of allowing Deidre to say. If you think you were shocked, we were more so.

ManBitch, I don't give two drops of piss if you believe me or not, none of us had anything to do with that. We immediately went to nophest and almost as one screamed WTF dude! Because he did it. Or if it wasn't him directly, it was one of the other admins. ejls had managed to stay out of the thick of it for the most part but she was fighting her own battles on a different front with nophest. It didn't effect her quite as much as it did chunky, piggit and myself. We were taking a pounding and me most of all. And most of it was completely underserved and was getting worse by nophest's dicking around. Then Leila made a brief appearance and the attacks against me got intensely personal and I spent a few days questioning whether or not it was even worth it.

Personal attacks I'm used to. Being attacked by half a dozen members across three or four threads and having the admin fucking with me was starting to stress me a bit. It would be different if I was starting shit with people in all those threads. If that were the case then I'd have no reason to complain. But what I was doing was defending myself against a seemingly endless run of character attacks by people who thought I was the Forum AntiChrist. People speculating wildly on the destruction I was sure to bring down on them and of the machiavellian machinations I must have been working behind the scenes to both get Deidre banned and then cock up a poll.

So anyway, the poll. After a lot of bitching in the mod forum, nophest deigned us with a response. And, as he'd done in the past, he laughed it off. He didn't admit to doing it but it's really irrelevant. It wasn't us so it had to be him or one of the other admins. When we not so subtly informed him that he was making our live's increasingly difficult, first with the ban of deidre and all the other bans of her socks afterwords and his decisions regarding that, and then the poll, he was backing us in to a corner. And, he didn't care. He was deliberately causing shit in GD and was completely unconcerned with the fallout for us. And, this wasn't a new thing for him.

Once I realized that he doesn't really care what happens here I asked myself if it made sense that I should subject myself to the beating I was taking to keep his forum clean. After all, why should I care when the guy in charge doesn't give a shit because besides a few rumpled feathers, there's nothing in it for me. It's not like I get a free membership to a porn site or a gift card to AdamEve.com so really, what the fuck was the point.

I told the other mods in the beginning that I was fine with the attacks I knew would come my way once I was appointed and that no matter how bad it might get, I wouldn't much worry as long as I had their support. And they did support me. I had the vote of confidence from both Chunky and piggit. What completely blew me away was that nophest not only didn't give a shit, but that he was actively working against me. Not directly; I don't think he was sitting in front of his monitor thinking of ways to fuck with me, I think he was just oblivious and indifferent to what effect his games were causing. And then couldn't understand why we would get pissed about it.

Once I realized that, I decided that the job was not worth it and told nophest that he was a dick and that he could take the job and shove it. I then actually did try to ban myself but it turns out that you can't do that. The mods know all of this as the posts are most certainly still up in the mod forum and I give them props for continuing to work under nophest's management (if that's even the case right now). They can attest to the truth of my words if they so desire. Or Az can post some kind of picture. Or not. This is what happened.

I did not corrupt the poll, that was either nophest or another admin and he/they did it just to watch us run around our little ant hill in confusion. He/they did it for the lulz and then blew us off when we complained about it. So fuck him.

Ah, well - personally I believe that like 50% of the posters in almost any forum take them too seriously... I appreciate your statement, Shake. You know, it's pretty clear what is and is not important to the admins and it's pretty common really with respect to internet forums in general.

I would say the admins think that polls are silly and meaningless as do I... On the other hand, a loud public outcry of false accusations is quite important. Yeah, there's a lot more... Generally speaking, however, this is my opinion.

 

As one of those hurling shit your way during the period of the OP's initial post, I appreciate your latest post on the subject.

Never have I doubted your tenacity in sticking with your beliefs (or lack thereof), the story that you posted illustrates something that I would have expected from you.

Whether you give a shit of not, I do admire your attitude and congratulate you on your handling of the whole mess.

I know we have yet to cross paths on any debate, but you have our respect for what you have already done, even in your short time as a mod..

I just wonder if your explaination regarding certain matters, will now FINALLY convince DL that the POLL was still in favour of Deidre being banned, before it was corrupted and he will stop accusing you or the mods...

I read ShakeZula's explanation, and I think he is telling the truth. I am sorry about the acrimony I created by expressing the suspicion that he corrupted the poll.

 

i'd just like to go on record as saying that altho i have no idea at all why this thread is still active, i've been basically absent for weeks, and i find it somehow oddly comforting to see this never waning thread still thriving.
