A dog vaccination campaign and show took place in Mamelodi West at the weekend. Organiser Chris Mabe of Chris Pets for the Love of Pets said 525 dogs were vaccinated free of charge.
He said the quarterly event was held under the theme “Let’s keep those tails wagging” and was aimed at encouraging all pet owners to ensure their dogs were vaccinated for rabies, which was usually spread through bites, and other diseases.
The event was held at the softball pitch near HM Pitje stadium in Mamelodi West.

“We are happy that the people came in their numbers and showed that they love and care for their dogs,” said Mabe.
He said that dogs were not as dangerous as some people believed.
“Dogs deserve our care and love,” he said adding he was planning to host more awareness campaigns.
“My aim is to present awareness campaigns throughout the Tshwane community to raise awareness of dog diseases and how to care for and love dogs,” he said.
The dogs were dipped, dewormed and vaccinated.
He said the attendees were taught how to take care for their pets through proper nutrition, grooming, shampooing and dipping and how to avoid kennel- or chain stress.
He said he also hoped the campaign would help reduce the number of stray dogs in the community.

He said pet owners were also made aware of upcoming campaigns by Chris Mabe on risks to health as a result of dead dogs left to decay in the streets.
